Understanding the Difference Between Fear and Intuition: A Key to Authentic Decision-Making
One of the most invaluable lessons I’ve learned and now share with my clients is how to discern the difference between fear and intuition. This distinction is essential for making decisions that feel aligned with our inner compass.
We’ve been conditioned to silence our inner voice in favor of pleasing others and maintaining outward appearances.
Here’s a simple yet powerful insight that changed everything for me - how to differentiate fear from intuition:
Fear tends to be loud and urgent. It often manifests as anxiety or panic, usually anchored in past regrets or future “what ifs.” Fear reminds us of our perceived inadequacies and can lead to avoidance. It’s important to understand that fear’s purpose is to keep us safe, not to be ignored or suppressed. Instead, we can acknowledge fear gently, without clinging to the false narratives it creates.
Intuition is subtle and quiet. It speaks in the present moment, offering a deep sense of knowing or alignment. Intuition might express itself as a feeling that “this just feels right” or an unexplainable certainty that “this is the right path.” It often brings emotions like peace, excitement, or a strong gut feeling.
For me, intuition reveals itself most clearly in moments of stillness- when I quiet the noise and listen attentively.
